Erzurum, located at an elevation of 1843 meters, is the capital of a province bearing the same name. The city has about 240,000 inhabitants and forms the economical and cultural centre of eastern Anatolia. The city used to be a stopover for caravans on the silk road from Persia to the Black Sea. It also was of great importance as military base. Even today extended military complexes and monuments shape the city's face. | ![]() |
